IS UP&GO GLUTEN-FREE (SUITABLE FOR PEOPLE WITH COELIAC DISEASE)?

Up & Go contains added wheat maltodextrin. However, the maltodextrin is simply the starch component of wheat grains, and contains no detectable gluten. All of the other ingredients in Up & Go are derived from non-gluten containing sources.  We have not however, had the product analysed to confirm the gluten status.

Is Up&Go suitable as a meal replacement?

NO - Up&Go is a breakfast alternative. It has been designed as the ideal alternative for people who do not feel like eating first thing in the morning, or who do not have time for breakfast at home, and otherwise buy a less nutritious take-away breakfast, or go without breakfast. A balanced breakfast of cereal, milk or So Good, fruit and toast is still a highly recommended breakfast.

IS UP&GO SUITABLE FOR CHILDREN?

We do not recommend reduced fat products/low fat diets for children less than 2 years of age, as they need the extra energy of full cream products for maximum growth.  Up & Go, being a low fat breakfast, therefore is not suitable for children less than 2 years of age, as an alternative to a bowl of cereal and full cream milk / regular So Good.

However, Up & Go can be given to children over 12 months as an alternative to sweetened drinks.

Is Up&Go a suitable alternative to Sustagen, Ensure or other dietary supplements?

Doctors or Dietitians usually recommend these products for people with impaired nutrient/food intake due to particular medical conditions. Up&Go does not have the same range of added vitamins and minerals as these products, and therefore should not replace them without first consulting the Doctor or Dietitian who recommended them.

However, Up&Go is a nutritious food that could complement the nutrient intake of the regular diet. Up&Go is potentially ideal for people with impaired nutrient intakes, such as elderly people, people with poor appetites (eg cancer patients) or people with eating/swallowing difficulties - recommend these people consult their Doctor or Dietitian.

WHAT DOES THE TERM 'FORMULATED SUPPLEMENTARY FOOD' MEAN?

This term refers to a specific set of guidelines in the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code that Up & Go is made according to. Formulated Supplementary Foods are allowed to contain a range of added vitamins and minerals up to certain levels (in general these foods can contain up to 50% of the recommended daily allowance of vitamins and minerals per serve). These products are designed to provide a convenient source of essential nutrients when the usual diet may be low in energy or nutrients for reasons such as meal skipping, poor appetite, poor dietary variety etc.

WHAT DOES THE TERM 'NOT SUITABLE AS A COMPLETE MILK FOOD FOR CHILDREN UNDER 2 YEARS' MEAN?

Up until the age of 2 years, full fat milk or soy products are recommended as the main milk drink (in drinks, on cereal etc) as opposed to reduced fat products.  This is because young children require the extra energy of full fat products for growth. After the age of 2, reduced fat milk or soy products are suitable.  Because Up & Go is similar to a bowl of Weet-Bix with low /reduced fat milk, we recommend that it is suitable for children over the age of 2 as an alternative to cereal with full fat milk or soymilk.

However, Up & Go can be given to children over 12 months as an alternative to sweetened drinks.

Approximately how much cholesterol does Up & Go contain?

Less than 1.5mg/100ml

Resistant starch is a type of starch that the body is unable to digest in the same way as starch in other foods like bread, potatoes and rice. UP&GO CONTAINS VITAMIN A. IS IT SUITABLE FOR PREGNANT WOMEN?

Up & Go has been developed to provide similar nutrition to a bowl of Weet-Bix and milk. As milk naturally provides a source of vitamin A, Up & Go contains added vitamin A to a level similar to dairy milk. Pregnant women are advised to avoid very high levels of vitamin A, such as those found in supplements or some offal meats, as it can be toxic to the unborn baby. However, it is not necessary to avoid foods that naturally contain vitamin A, such as dairy milk. Therefore, the vitamin A content of Up & Go is an appropriate level for pregnant women, and Up & Go therefore is suitable/safe for pregnant women to consume.
